Dr. Wassim Shebaby
Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Dr. Wassim Shebaby received his PhD degree in Cancer Cell Biology at the University of Surrey in Guildford, United Kingdom. His PhD thesis aimed at evaluating the in vitro and in vivo antioxidant, anticancer, and immunomodulatory effects of the Lebanese wild carrot, Daucus carota ssp. Carota, and elucidate the possible mechanisms of action involved. In 2014, he joined the Natural Science department at LAU as part-time faculty member where he taught several undergraduate biology courses and assisted in guiding many undergraduate students in their Senior Projects. Alongside, Dr. Shebaby was a member of interdisciplinary research team from different LAU schools (SAS, SOP and SOM) working on isolating and characterizing natural compounds from Lebanese medicinal plants and evaluating their chemical and pharmacological properties as well as exploring their mechanisms of action. During that period of time, he was able to publish more than 20 peer-reviewed articles with Q1/Q2 quartile ranks. In 2020, he was appointed as a research faculty-postdoctoral research fellow at the School of Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Science Department under the supervision of Dr. Mohamad Mroueh. His present research work focuses on exploring the anticancer and anti-inflammatory activities of the Lebanese cannabis extract and other prominent cannabinoids, in addition to evaluating the synergistic activity of combination therapy of major cannabinoids with conventional anticancer agents using several in vitro and in vivo models.
