Dr. Elias Akoury is an assistant Professor of Chemistry and the Director of Research Collaboration & Partnerships for Life Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. degree in Physical Chemistry with a focus on the field of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy and drug discovery from the Max Planck Institute for Multidisciplinary Research and the university of Goettingen, Germany.  After postdoctoral studies at the Gene Center and the faculty of Chemistry of the University of Munich, he joined LAU in 2019 and GSR in 2023. His research interests include structural elucidation of protein complexes, thermodynamics and kinetic studies of Phtalocyanine aromatic stacking; targeting natural products in drug discovery for neurodegenerative diseases, molecular mechanisms in drug design for protein aggregation inhibition, and analysis of pharmaceutical derivatives in water bodies. Dr. Akoury is a certified application specialist and technical support for NMR Spectroscopy, Mass Spectrometry and Electron Microscopy for the company JEOL Germany. Dr. Akoury works closely with faculty members to build on the interdisciplinary research partnership and collaborative projects.
