As an IRB Lead Program Manager, Karmen is responsible for the coordination with the Director and Chair of IRB to manage the review and approval of research projects involving human subjects conducted at LAU and its affiliated hospitals or by LAU faculty, students and staff at non-LAU locations.
Her duties also include maintaining registration for IRB with federal government agencies and accrediting bodies. She is also involved in developing processes, policies and procedures, and training material pertaining to the IRB to meet international guidelines for the protection of human participants in research.
She also maintains updated information on regulations, inspections, policies, and procedures and other resources that directly affects IRB activities.
Karmen holds a Master’s degree in molecular biology from the Lebanese American University and is currently working on her MBA & CIM.
In 2012, Karmen assumed the role of IRB Administrator and the role of IRB Lead Program Manager in 2022. She has been working on developing her skills within the field of clinical research regulatory frameworks. She became a Certified IRB Manager and a member of the Society of Clinical Research Associates (SoCRA) and Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research (PRIM&R) in 2013.
